Looking back now, I suppose some of those unfortunate street
people in New York City had diagnoses like schizophrenia or bipolar
disorder. Maybe some of them suffered a head injury or from
alcoholism that put them at greater risk for dementia. In fact, alcohol
related dementia gets its own category. It seems that poor people who
are more vulnerable to high blood pressure, strokes, depression and poor
nutrition are also more at risk for a dementia.
